Notes on sewing metal buttons

Metal buttons are made of metal materials, and their styles can be divided into metal snap buttons, high-end snap buttons, I-shaped buttons, Metal Jeans Rivet, Jeans Metal Eyelet, Printed Sewing Button and so on. It includes shape, pattern, color, material, practicality, durability, manufacturability and craftsmanship of large-scale industrial production.

The metal button has both practical and decorative functions, but we must sew it to the fabric properly. Otherwise it may affect the usefulness of the item. Specific considerations are as follows:

1. Make sure the metal buttons are attached to a fabric of the appropriate thickness

Each metal button has a suitable fabric thickness range, however, too thick fabrics can damage fabrics and buttons due to extremely high bonding pressure. In response to this situation, when designing clothing, reduce the thickness of specific areas of the button, and communicate with the button manufacturer, using longer button feet.

For thinner fabrics, the fabric for sewing metal buttons must be thick and strong enough to avoid damaging the clothes or dropping the buttons. Thin fabrics like silk or knitwear may be unable to bear the pull when unbuttoning. We'd better add adhesive liners, pads, etc. between the fabric layers in the binding area to add thickness and strength.

Also, please be aware that if buttons are sewn in places of uneven thickness, the buttons may be deformed or fall off from clothing.

2. Make sure the metal buttons are sewn in the correct position

Avoid attaching metal buttons to seams, which are threads that stitch two or more pieces of cloth together. Otherwise, there is the possibility that buttons is out of shape or the seam is cut off.

Not only metal buttons, Plastic Buttons, Polyester Shirt Button and other buttons need to be very careful when sewing.
